I do not profess to be the type who wants or requires nor desires "numbers
matching" but I like to research, solve a riddle or two once in a while and
understand stuff better.

On my #1657 my block number reads 0227 T (long space then) CE 979416

Now on my #0242 my block number reads from left to right "T07I5RH" and it's
definitely an "I" and not the number one in there. and that is all visible (
I now this engine is a 65 or 66, no question) or maybe I's and 1's were
meant to be one o the same?

According to finger facts, 30th anniversary edition, page 18, 2nd column,
second paragraph..

T is for Tonawanda, followed by two numbers, indicating month of production
(01 to 12) then two more numbers indicating the day of the month.

When looking at the above stated, 1657 makes some sense 0227 its February
27th, "T" follows, I see that is should be a prefix though not a suffix. And
according to my trim tag it says 10A so October first week 1968. But that
doesn't jive with the engine date stamp. What gives?

Were engines stamped in Tonawanda as they were made then shipped to Willow
Run and mated arbitrarily to a car or were they stamped as they went into
the chassis ?

I have no clue what these numbers are saying, do any of you? I keep
thinking that CE stands for Corvair Experimental and I have some kind of
stealthy and unique engine! (not likely)
