I replaced the hoses on my 69 and did not have any difficulty. The hoses came from Clarks. I am a professional and have every wrench imaginable too but do not recall having any difficulty.

Hello,

I?ve had to replace the rubber brake hoses on my ?69. I purchased them from Clark?s. I discovered that the repro front hoses have a much shorter wrench flat area on the flare nut than the OEM items. I can?t fit my flare nut wrench to tighten the fitting. Very irritating!

I?m sure I?m not the only one to have run into this problem. Has anyone come up with a way of dealing with this? Perhaps a specialized tool or some method of being able to properly torque the fitting?

Thanks for your help,
Jim

Hi Jim,

Yes, I played that game too. I swapped 1 out like that then gave up when I needed to the other & simply ?downgraded? the brake cylinders to pre-69 & used the standard hoses.  I?m not sure where/why GM decided to use those (or what other application they came from), but there appears to be no good reason, short of ?originality? to use the 69 type.

I found the same problem on my '69.  I had to remove the wheel cylinder,
install the hose, and then reinstall the wheel cylinder.  Of course, you
have to remove the shoes and hardware first.
