And feed back, pros and cons, are greatly appreciated. would help set CORSA priorities. <can't do everything at once>

I know at least one person who would likely join (re-join, renew on time ) multiple chapters if this was available.

-- ok, I just indicated that the Collecting chapter dues should NOT be limited to a single chapter, but allow the memeber to select and pay for multiple chapter memberships in one shopping cart. For me, that would be SMCC (St louis), PCCA (Prairie Capital, central IL), SCG (Stock Corvairs) and PCG (Performance Corvairs) <not all have dues but > May add a few others like CCC (Indy), ICE (Iowa).

time to get to get busy at work. so i can pay all those dues.

All,

Please read my proposal asking CORSA to collect both national and chapter
dues (below) and let's have a fruitful discussion. I really think this is a
good idea and could turn out to help both CORSA and the Chapters to improve
membership.

I know there has been a lot of discussion on VV recently about membership,
dues, etc., including the oft-repeated thought of requiring CORSA membership
for all chartered Chapters. Well, I will leave that discussion to others.

However, I am currently a member of two chapters that DO require 100% CORSA
membership (Tidewater Corvair Club and the Stock Corvair Group). As the
president of SCG, I am looking for a way to make it easier for us to both
insure our members are also CORSA members as well as to keep our own
records/dues, etc, up to date. We also face this same problem in TCC.

Therefore, I would like to explore the possibility of asking CORSA to bill
for both National and local dues and to share the data on dual members with
the respective organizations. The way I see it working would be for
chapters that wish to participate to inform CORSA of such (probably some
sort of written agreement), including letting CORSA know the current Chapter
Dues. CORSA would send annual statements to members which include a list of
chapters they belong to (might need a form for all chapters to start with
maybe this could be an on-line thing?) and members would send one dues check
to cover both National and all selected Chapter dues. CORSA would send
chapter dues money to the chapters along with current paid-up member lists.

For those chapters still wanting to not require CORSA membership, they could
either opt out of the program entirely or they could let CORSA take care of
just the CORSA members in their chapter and they would have to worry about
the non-CORSA members themselves.

Please consider this proposal seriously.

At the very least, the SCG is definitely interested in establishing such and
arrangement.

One last thought: to entice members to join both CORSA and a local chapter,
the board and local chapters might consider offering a slight reduction in
dues for dual membership (for example, $40 for CORSA membership alone, $10
for SCG membership alone, but maybe $48 for dual membership) CORSA and the
respective chapters could discuss the amount and how the cost of the
discount is to be shared.

Thanks!

Bill,

I'm not anybody and certainly don't have any authority (rightly so), but
I'll acknowledge your e-mail.

If I understand your proposal, you'd like there to be an option of paying
local dues through CORSA, not mandatory membership, right?

Right off the bat, I like the convenience for the local chapters.

One difficulty (not a big problem or a "show stopper") I can see would be
keeping track of the amounts of the different local chapter dues. It would
require that CORSA maintain the local chapter dues rates in the database.
Then what would happen if someone paid $12 for a local that was actually
charging $15? Would CORSA have to go after the extra $3 or would that be
handled by local muscle? Perhaps the solution would be as simple as if you
pay your local dues through CORSA the rate is one amount for all chapters.
For a little incentive that rate may be less than paying the chapter
directly, as you proposed. Of course, we'd have to get the locals to buy
into that.

Then there's the logistics. How often would CORSA be expected to send the
local chapters checks? I think the tasks currently being performed by the
CORSA staff is already beyond capacity (if any board member would like to
discuss that, feel free). Having problems with the national organization
dispensing funds to the locals could be froth with danger (don't mess with
OUR money).

Bottom line is this proposal certainly warrants discussion and
consideration.

Thank You,
Ned

PS the PCG is 100% CORSA members and charges NO dues :^)

Thanks for the reply, Ned.

Yes, you have restated the idea correctly.

I agree there are logistical details, as you mentioned. However, I am
willing to offer up the SCG as a test bed for the project, should the board
be interested in pursuing the idea.

I am also willing to discuss the idea with my local club, TCC.

By the way, both clubs require 100% CORSA membership, so that takes one of
the issues off the table.

Perhaps, if the board is interested in providing this service to the
chapters, they could conduct a survey of the chapters to determine the range
of chapter dues. We might then be better able to determine if a single dues
structure would be feasible.

I wonder if we should open up this discussion to the Chapters List?

Sorry Bill,

I did not receive your email, my ISP and my email address has changed to
flat6vair at comcast.net. I got bryan to correct some of my redirects but
forgot to make sure it was changed elsewhere (including with Mike for the
Communique) my bad.

I agree, this needs to be added to the list for board to discuss on how to
make CORSA work better for the chapters. The chapters list may help with
some of the logistics. Does not have to be mandatory to pay both via CORSA,
timeliness of notification is important. (newsletter cut offs are
approaching for my chapter)

The fees could be added to the DB at the time of a chapter report filing
--or updated at anytime by the chapter rep. Does not need to be the same
for all chapters --- But we also need to consider that chapters have more
than one possible dues rate -- PCCA has family and single. Others have CORSA
member/non member, others have "associate member" or some such. Doable,
but need time to develop. Which means it needs to be put in the priority
queue.

Thanks for the suggestion, it has been brought up in the past, now I (and
Ned) can get it in our suggestion list so hopefully it will be given a good
discussion.

All,

I've CC'd the chapters newsgroup on this post.

I've been advocating this for some time, as at least one other national club
that I belong to does just that. They send out yearly (everyone's dues are
due at the same time, and first-year menbers can/could be pro-rated) dues
notices. Each local's dues are listed (and yes, they vary from one to
another) and the total is at the bottom. No harder than to do convention
registrations, and maybe simpler. Everyone has the option of joining one,
any and as many as one wants, or no local chapter - no problem.

Each year the locals are supplied with a list of members for the year and
their collective dues.

What if someone under/overpays? The entire thing is returned unprocessed. No
problem.

I don't see it as much of a hurdle to do, regardless of whether CORSA would
want to do it once a month or once a year. And we could offer the "service"
to local clubs who wanted to maintain 100% CORSA membership, and not have
the hassle of collecting local dues. That in itself could be a selling
point, a one-stop application process for prospective as well as current
members.

-Mark
