<CORSA Chapters> Student Change Suggestion

Scott and all -

I suggest that
"1. Any student/child up to 22 years old may join
the Corvair Society of America."
be modified to read:

1. Any full time student in an accredited course of instruction who has not yet attained the age of 25 is eligible to apply for Student Membership.

This change defines student to include home study or technical schools in addition to high school, college or university.

The change up to age 25 reflects that many students are staying in school longer or returning to school after military service.

Regards,

Jack

Subject: <CORSA Chapters> Comments Concerns - Student Membership policy

Feel free to respond directly to me or include everyone you wish - Many thanks in advance.

Student Membership Policy - Draft

Background
–

The
bylaws were voted upon, approved and changed to allow this membership
classification (other/special membership) during the 2009 convention by the
general membership. The change also
allows other special memberships (i.e., electronic Communique, etc)

By-Laws - “Section 1.4: Other / Special
Memberships”

“Granted to any person submitting a properly
executed application for membership and upon payment of appropriate dues. Other
/ Special Membership(s) may or may not be granted regular membership privileges
and or benefits, however, the specific details of these membership classification(s)
will be promulgated through the development of specific CORSA policies
respectively, which are then approved by the

majority of the Board of Directors”

The original intent of the Student program was not only to employ a strategy to
acquire a deeper membership base for the future - but also provide a mechanism
to allow the mentorship’s of grandparents, parents, aunts & uncles, brother
& sisters, guardians and etc., into the world of Corvairs and the
associated benefits thereof mentoring programs.

Student
Membership Programs are available in a wide variety of other car clubs and or
associations. The membership committee
decided to pursue this course even though originally it was mentioned by Bill
Hubbell several years earlier (The above may not have been Bills exact idea or
concept, but this is what it has transpired into since the concept was
floated).

Down
the road (future) - If the seeds start to grow and become established and we
see an increase in the program - then
the convention may need to add a more kids friendly venue of events – perhaps
an increase in the model car side, valve cover racing and other similar or new
venues – but again – that is down the road.

Our
Society will only reap the rewards that the Board makes available to the
community it serves.

Another perhaps forced benefit will be from those individuals that do not renew
their membership based on the new dues structure and the level of services
provided. It will allow those and other declining memberships an opportunity to
provide a membership to a student (grand child etc) and still stay focused on
the Corvair, the Society and mentorship of the new Student. A win - win
for all those concerned. Thank you for
all the comments and concerns - please continue to comment and improve this
draft policy.

Thanks

Rough Draft of the Student
Membership Policy - below

Rationale:

A basic component of
the Society’s purpose is to provide an organization which satisfies the common
needs of individuals interested in the operation, preservation, restoration,

Students offer the
Society unique experiences and opportunities.
For continued Society support and the future of CORSA, students are a
key logical demographic to support, foster and encourage joining our Society to
assist in the promotion of our common interests and to participate in
opportunities and activities that are afforded members of the Corvair Society
of America and its affiliated Chapters.

 Policy:

Granted to any
Student submitting a properly executed application for membership and upon
payment of appropriate dues. The applicant shall provide verifying / supporting
