<CORSA Chapters> [Corsabod] Fw: DMM

thank you James for putting my thoughts into words. As most of you know...written English is my short fall. I never seem to relay my thoughts on paper as well as verbly. We must remember no matter how it is stated; this club is all about the love we have for the Corvair and the wonderful friendships we make. That is first and formost.

I think what Bob was referring to is that some
members who received the motion sent back a reply with a vote. This may
have given some the mistaken impression that they were being given the
opportunity to actually vote on the motion. However, the whole point of
having a board of directors, bylaws and policies and procedures is to take
care of the business so the membership does not have to.
If we were to hold a vote of this nature for the
membership it would be all but impossible to ensure all members had a chance to
vote. Some may not have computers or may not have updated email addresses
registered with CORSA.
As a board we try to get business taken care of
relatively quickly. In this case trying to have a vote by the general
membership would best be carried out as an insert in the Communique as is done
with electing directors and other important issues. We do not feel this is
that important an issue to necessitate the cost and time involved for a general
membership vote.
I think the background information should have been
released as a notice to the membership, but the actual motion should have been
circulated to the board only. Sending it to the membership just created
some confusion about the matter.
I trust this helps explain the situation a little
better. We definitely encourage feedback from the membership - that is why
we are here, to listen to the membership.
Please keep the comments flowing, we are
listening.
Regards,
James Hogarth
CORSA Western Division Director

Bob,
I must take exception with your
position that releasing everything (your word) to the general membership
negates the ned for a Board. You state that this motion was to be
presented and voted at Ventura. if that had happened, the general membership
would have been presented with an accomplished fact. That is not how
this organization should run. We need more not less input from the
general membership. A petition signed at the performance Workshop hardly
represents the feelings of the nation wide membership.
Recently,
we had another round of 'what does CORSA do for me' discussions on these
forums. It weakens the case for the benefits of CORSA if the membership
gets the impression of business being conducted in secret.
I meet DMM on
several occasions and stood in the rain with her at BeaveRun while we
controlled the NECC Time Trials. A wonderful lady and I would support
honoring her. My advice is to get input from as many as possible.

To all
in regard to DDM award:
Tim &Warren LeVeque ,you both stated the
intentions of the DMM award very well. I wanted to add that I
talked to Donna Mae in 2004 about the award before it was given at our
regional convention. The award was warmly received. She was so excited to be
honored by Corvair family for her early contributions to the Yenko racing
team. She did race a PINK CORVAIR and there are pictures of her with it.
She felt the IS classes were the closest of today cars to the cars
she raced back then. She wanted the award to be given to more than
just the top dog at the event. The idea of having this become a national
award was first presented at the performance workshop in 2007 and a petition
was started at that time. I believe everyone involved signed the
petition and no negative feedback was given. It was also looked at by
the Competition chairperson and his committee...and the 2008
performance workshop. The idea of the award was first presented to
the BOD in Detroit. This mot
ion was supposed to have been
presented and passed at Ventura but I was unable to get to the meeting because
of vehicle breakdown. It was discussed favorably at Jacksonville
and I was to get the final draft written for the motion and vote. Do to
the delays of polices and procedures the draft was delayed as all Corsa
business has been. This was an attempt to get Corsa business going
again and was unfortunately delayed long enough that Donna Mae died without
knowing it had finally come to vote. According to policies and
procedures the motion was placed and last week was the time for discussion and
any changes. This week it was up for vote, but somehow the motion
only was released with no background information to the general membership.
This is a Corsa BOD document and if we release everything to the
general membership for voting then the BOD isn't needed. In the computer
world they say Garbage in Garbage out. Feedback from the general
membership is beneficial when
it is properly presented and timely.
