My daughter is employed at MIT doing cancer research. She has been taken off her regular assignments weeks ago and put on a task force working on this virus. She has been in phone contact with us regularly this week (something very unusual.) She has repeatedly emphasized how imperative this situation is for those of us over 60, I believe that is the majority of the club, despite how healthy we are. So on very strong advice from someone who knows the situation first hand very well, I am not going to attend either the meeting or the dinner despite being very disappointed in doing so.

Subject: Meeting and dinner

Obviously, the state of the world and particularly our area now is constantly changing. People's opinions are changing on what they will do.

Here is my take.

Club members, the meetings are voluntary. If you want to attend, you are welcome. Our March meeting has to move to the Grand Island Welcome Center due to Lenten church functions. If you feel uncomfortable going to the meeting, we will miss you but we understand. However, the Corvair we are giving away will still go on (just kidding, I'm keeping it).

As for the dinner, again, if you feel uncomfortable, please let Joe know so we can change the reservations. It would be unfair to the restaurant to hold places that won't be filled. But let me give you my opinion. My business it taking a big hit because of this virus. I am completely out of work at the busiest time of my year. So are my competitors in the entertainment business, including all my freelance and union friends, as well as theatres, clubs, arenas, etc and their employees. Layoffs are looming. I know the restaurant businesses are also suffering. I would rather patronize the restaurants to keep them open and working. They are suffering too.

So again, let Joe know if you are not coming to the dinner. Or if anyone new wants to join us. And I hope I'm not the only face at the meeting. Stay safe and healthy to all of you. I raise my roll of toilet paper and toast you all.
