Having restored several cars to winning concours condition, I know the amount of 
work necessary to get a Corvair into excellent condition. I believe it would be 
in the best interest of NECC to start with a popular model in very close to 
excellent shape to begin with. I think it would be problematic to purchase a 
"so-so" vehicle and expect some person or group to bring it to excellent 
condition. 


I would recommend that an ex show car, that just need a good detailing, no rust, 
dents etc. be purchased . Would I be willing to spend $50 for raffle tickets for 
a Corvair worth $7,500- $10,000? Certainly!

We paid 10K for the car.  We did VERY little to it. Remember it had 19K
original miles, was a past documented AACA winner, the car was solid
original.

Three of us busted our asses almost every weekend attending shows and
events starting in January 2009 up until 1 month before the convention
when we took the car off the "circuit" as we called it and started
detailing it for Concours.  The car scored 97 something.

We also on blind faith sent out tickets with a letter and pictures to
chapters asking them to purchase in advance.  I'd say over all that
helped, but you really need someone who will stay on it and make sure
chapters return with correct money, etc.  Many chapters did not respond
at all and did not return un-purchased tickets, so I had to stand there
with a list and explain this before we drew the winner.  I had to make
sure the ticket was purchased.  If it hadn't and the person was present
give me $5 here and now and the car is yours.  If not we would draw
again.  Thankfully that didn't happen.

Bottom line, we made over 20K AFTER expenses...

Do you know or can you find out how much money the Florida folks took in
on their raffle car?
