CORSA 2012: Economy Run and more

Bob (and the rest of the NECC). I took my time responding to carefully word
my response to this email. First and foremost, I think I will need some
clarification as to the Saturday event. Is it going to be the Concours, or
is it going to be the Car Display? The concours is the judging of each car
individually for points. The car display is the open show with best of show
etc. awards. Perhaps this has not been properly worded in the past and
therefore has led to confusion. I have NO problem with the CAR DISPLAY on
Saturday as that is the perfect day for it. As it has been stated in the
past it gives the public a better opportunity to see the Corvair as it is
the weekend and most people have it off. The Concours however is a long
process with many individuals either participating or judging. That should
be done early on in the convention so the judges can tally the points which
can take hours to do. The CAR DISPLAY in Iowa worked out perfect on Saturday
while the Concours on Tuesday gave plenty of time for the points to be
tallied and announced at the banquet. For the Cole participants they have to
be in the Concours so IF you want to announce the Cole winner at the banquet
you will need time to have that judged event BEFORE the banquet.
As for the subject of listening to "people"; I believe it is my "job" as a
board member to listen to ALL the members no matter how I feel personally. I
am not catering to one group or another. I sat in the board meeting and
DEFENDED the NECC to the board in Iowa. I stated that it was time things got
shook up and that the NECC with its background could give CORSA one hell of
a convention. There were a few people on the board as well as some
convention committee members who were very leery of the NECC hosting as they
are not a CORSA sanctioned chapter and did not like all the things they saw
on the tentative schedule. Once again I and Tim Mahler defended and
promoted the NECC. I believe I have done my part in "listening" to my
constituents. If I had not been so vocal in support for the NECC the votes
could have gone very different. Not saying I did it all but I certainly
helped the cause.

Jason, stop listening to the tiny handful of people for whom the sun
rises and sets on the concours and listen instead to people like the
102 Corvair owners who came to the Clark's show on a SATURDAY last year.
The Saturday concours will attract more new participants than it will turn
off.
Stop catering to small focus groups like those who like an econo
run. They'll have one this year in Denver and if they step up to run
a future convention they can schedule what they like. I'd rather
"alienate" the tired old thinkers and attract new blood. I'd rather
change it up, make it fresh, and -- most importantly to me -- make
it different from year-to-year.
The more this convention morphs toward being just another same-ol
CORSA convention, the less interest I have.
