CORSA 2012: NECC: Next Year

Terry, your posting is well expressed and I agree with it wholeheartedly. It is too bad that there are not enough performance oriented Corvairs and drivers to support a track day and time trial without needing others to make it a financial success, but that is the way it is and there is one benifit for the Corvair community because of it. That is it shows off what can be done with a Corvair. There are always a lot of people at these events that previously had little knowledge of Corvairs and their inherently good handling that are quite impressed. Thjis is just another way of spreading the news to the rest of the world.

Looking at NECC in the opposite direction of changing it to only putting on autocrosses, rallyts and car shows would I believe kill it in fairly short order as local clubs can do it themselves so who would need NECC.

I prefer the Time Trials just so you know where I am coming from.

I agree with Ron's reasons for the falling off of Time Trial partisapation for Corvairs. (NECC could buy a few of the available shoulder harness adapters and rent them out to solve one of the problems Ron sited.) But I don't agree with Bob's enthusiasum for taking the NECC out of the annual Time Trial business.

Why would we need the NECC to run a car show, rally and even an autocross. A few clubs in any region can get together and host a bi-annual event like that any time the want. And if those clubs are NECC chapters, we would help promote it thru our network and probably bring a some NECC people to the event.

NECC's niche is a perfected formula for hi proformance events with the Time Trial at it's core. A stand alone Time Trial can't be sustained with Corvairs alone so we have to tap into other performance car groups to fill the field. But we would be providing a recurring venue for the hipo Corvair enthuseusts to count on, and keep our name on the pages of track records. That would provide the jumping off point to run multi venue events like the Olympics/Triathlon, convention associated time trials from time to time, and provide a hipo event to compliment a regional event like that being suggested for New England like tthe year we brought extra people to the Virginia Vair Fair by attaching a Time Trial at Summit Point. (or maybe even a Hill Clime.)
