Reality RV Planned for Albuquerque Rally 

Survival Expert Brian Brawdy to live in RV on grounds during event 

 Wilderness expert and survivalist Brian Brawdy will take center stage in Reality RV, one of two new green-focused initiatives planned for the Rally 2009 next April. As part of Reality RV, Brawdy and his copilot will live in his biodiesel-powered Lance Model 1181 camper on the Expo New Mexico grounds throughout the Rally. The couple will be challenged to show how much RVers conserve resources while living in an RV and will be frequently monitored by cameras installed in the rig. Rally guests will be encouraged to watch and learn more about the challenge while viewing on a large outdoor screen.

10 RV Battery Quick Tips

With the cold weather here I thought it would be a good time to briefly discuss RV batteries. Today I would like to offer 10 quick tips to help extend the life of your RV and automobile lead acid batteries. Battery maintenance is not that difficult but always keep safety in mind when you work around batteries. Lead acid batteries contain sulfuric acid which is extremely corrosive and can cause severe burns or even blindness. The hydrogen gas that batteries produce when they’re charging is very explosive. When you work around batteries you need to wear goggles and gloves, remove all jewelry and do not smoke or use any open flames.

A Case of Mistaken Identity 

A few years ago, my husband and I decided to take a trip from Seattle to Multnoma Falls in Oregon. We decided to camp the first night not very far away from home because the mountains and trees were so inviting. We found a campground and opened up our Class B RV as the weather was quite warm. Before we left the campground the next morning, I could hear the sound of a bird in the van near the back door. We both looked around thinking a bird had possibly entered when we had the doors all open but didn’t find anything. Our only clue to the location of the bird was when we heard its occasionally chirping.

Cleaning tips from Baby Basics

Coffee spills occur frequently in our RV. Often, by the time I had a chance to clean up these accidents, the coffee would stain either plastic or wood areas. Upon my return home, I would work - with much elbow grease - at removing these stains. 

On my last trip, my wife included an old container of Baby Wipes. After the first inevitable disaster, I put one of the wipes to the test. Not only did it clean up the spill, it also removed other dried stains. The baby wipes worked so well that I sound found myself cleaning other parts of the RV with them - areas where both automotive and household cleaners had failed.
