Today was warm enough to roll under the GB and loosen the two nuts that attach
the air/heater unit to the bottom of the floor pan. A squirt of WD40 and a bit
of fumbling around with a 1/2" socket with some extensions and I was surprised
how easy they turned. Since the brackets on the pan are slotted, the pan
pulled out towards the front of the van quite easily!
And there it is... easy access to the air/heater unit and the tranny and the
diff and the starter!
The air/heater unit had only one thoroughly dehydrated mouse stuck in the rear
heat vent. Hanta Virus Alert! A face mask and disposable gloves are handy for
this job.
All of the foam insulation was shot. Anyone try that shiny metallic air bubble
stuff for something like this? Will it stand up to as much as 160 F?
The air shut off valve seems to be in perfect order. The mixer valve is deeper
inside the unit, but it is probably OK too.
Ain't life grand?
