Hey Keith,
I would second what David said about the pieces being hardened valve stem
seal pieces. As for getting the valves done, it shouldn't cost more than $
150. BUT you probably have a stuck valve lifter instead. If you want to
replace the lifters ,they are fairly cheap too. And you can get heads for
around $100 . Don't freak out yet!!
