  No, there is another rod with the "pin that the clips hold to the
door...just saw an old tech tip ( not in the guide) where they guy flattens
the pin end and drills a hole for a cotter pin to hold it to the
door...nevertheless the pin threads onto the rod that threads into the end
of the t-stat...

  Tighten down the doors??  Seems like I remember the t stats are tight on
the end of the shaft....

I have the truck now, (with a different engine) and it still puts out great
heat!

If only the fuzzies and shifter boot were good ( the boot is gone!).

Even with the draftiness it still stays pretty warm at around 25 degrees.

To keep them from opening too fast, just adjust the thermostats a little
tighter.
