[FC] SWAPPING 4-SPD.FOR AN AUTO.

Clark,

You did not answer my question, but thanks for the information that the car
PG does not have the cooler on it. Again, what is the difference between
the earlier stated pre '64 and '64 and later FC PG's? Jim states that the
'64 and later PG's were for the 164 cuin engine. I am taking this to mean
that you can not use the 164 cuin on pre '64 PG's. Clarks sells rebuilt
PG's the same for all years on the FC, this indicates that there is not a
difference in the PG's for FC's.

So is there any difference between the pre '64 and '64 and later PG
transmissions that would not allow you to use the 164 cuin on the pre '64?

I do not recall reading about any difference in the PG transmission. If
there is a difference than I will either need to get a different PG or
rebuild another motor! Either will make me sleep in the Dog house as the
wife will not likely give me more money easily....

Keith (hoping for no difference) Hammett

Powerglides in Forward Controls have fittings for oil cooler lines. The
cooler mounts behind the battery. You can put a car Powerglide in an FC but
you won't have the provisions for the oil cooler.

What is the difference in PG? Clarks lists the same PG for '61 to '65 FC.
Can you not use a 164 cuin engine on a '62 PG FC transmission?

Nothing on the engine but the bell housing needs to be changed. Starters
are the same. There are two PG, before 64 and 64 and later. The 64 and
later is for the 164 cuin engines. All FC with PG had external coolers but
the a car PG can be made to work with an external cooler. . You need a FC
transmission cross member (trans mount), torque convertor, flexplate and
flexplate bolts (different than manual). Don't forget the shifter and
shift cable. Dashes are the same. There are a few clamps and screws you
will need. I would see Howard R. about what you need.
