If you can get the replacement roof panel off with little to no damage, and
that will take some doing and time doing it, then just go over the old roof
panel with the new. I would cut out the center and leave about 3" all around
the edges and uses some of the new adhesives to put the new panel to the old.
The seam won't show on the inside if you do it correctly and on the outside,
he should be able to clean up the edges and smooth them out with some plastic
body filler. Once it is done, no one would know the difference if the old
panel was totally removed or not. I believe that this will reduce the chances
of damaging the roof gutter on the good vehicle. The new adhesives are very
strong and will hold everything tight if it is done properly. Pay particular
attention to cleaning up the roof bows so the glue will hold well there.
Everything will have to be cleaned to bare metal. What city/state is this
being done. If it is close enough to me, I would be willing to give a hand in
the project....... Paul in CT

Paul, thanks for the detailed reply. Actually, Bill Sweet needs the
replacement. My Grandson Paolo has one, and Bill is going to pick it up
today. Bill has, an otherwise nice, 8 dr deluxe that needs saving. Has
  severe roof rust problems.
