Howdy folks, allow me to introduce myself. Im a new Vair owner; 63
Corvan to be exact. Im no stranger to the FC vehicles though, having owned a
few
Dodge A100 vans and many, many, early Ford Econolines(61-67) both vans and
pickups. I currently specialize in the early Econolines but stumbled on this
sweet
all original Corvan about a year ago and am finally getting it on the road. My
time's been limited to work on it since Im involved in several other projects
with the Econolines and I also sell parts for 61-67 Econos to anyone looking
for them. The parts "biz" has really been eating up a lot of my time lately so
I utilized a mechanic friend of mine to help me out getting the Vair up and
running. He has given it a thorough going over and rebuilt the carbs and as of
today its roadworthy. Gotta get insurance tomorrow and it ll be time for the
maiden voyage. Wish me luck!
The van itself is a low 23,000 mile original that used to haul flowers
to the grave site for a funeral home. Its 100% complete with no broken glass
or any parts missing except hubcaps which I dont want anyway since Im running
some cool 15" wheels on it now. Its been stored in a garage since 1988 when it
took 1st place at a local car show. The award was still sitting on the front
seat when I looked at it. It came stock with only the drivers bucket seat. Im
looking for a pair of van buckets to recover so I dont ruin the cherry
original drivers seat by recovering it. Im sure someone out there has a nice
passenger seat that matches my off- white drivers seat and would love to have
my all
original one to fix their drivers seat with springs popping out of it. I
prefer
newer fabric since Im gonna have a seat/bed combo in the rear which I ll
cover in the same material so all the seats match.
I attended the Corvair meet in Lexington,Ky. last Wednesday and saw a van
and 2 pickups that had the rare bucket seats. I got a few possible leads on a
set of bucket seats but nothing confirmed yet. If anyone has a set or can
steer me toward a set I would greatly appreciate it.
Some of you may know Lon Anderson who writes the Quart Low Quarterly.
Lon lives somewhat near me although he is moving down near Lexington soon. He
has been a great help and a valuable resource for me. I got a fuel tank
sender thru him and a lot of good links and info. Lon knows his Vairs like I
know
Econolines. My biggest headache was the fuel tank itself which after 3 tries,
I
located one worthy of using from a guy in California. Mosts were either
rusted badly inside or outside with several holes in them looked like a
sprinkler
when I pressure tested them under water.
Anyhow,I co-moderate a website for Econolines myself with a membership
of over 650. Its quite entertaining at times but also very ,very helpful. On
my site pics can be posted in the photo section or attached to emails so
members can view them. Also we have a files section for wiring diagrams and
other
stuff.
Can pics be posted to this site? Also is there a "home page" to visit? I
tried a few times to locate one but just got a listing of topics covered in
previous posts. Im used to the Econo sites format so I may take a while
getting
used to this one.
Feel free to visit the Econo site at oldeconolines@yahoogroups.com
