And that was before they started to mess with the way octane was rated.  The
new system (that is now old) cut the octane rating by many points.  Then they
cut the octane again.  Today, the gasoline that is available it in my opinion,
no better than Gulftane was in the 1960's except that the lead has been
removed.  For those not old enough to remember, Gulftane was the least
expensive gasoline that was available and it was just a step up from kerosene.
Even a low compression six cylinder engine would knock on a warm summer day
under normal acceleration.  The only thing that I had that ran well on
Gulftane was a 1928 Buick!!!!  The gas formula and the car were of the same

    Antique gas, as I remember it, was 98 octane for regular and 101octane
