[FC] Rubber shift boot

I replaced the worn out and disintegrating pleather
shift boot that came with my truck with a rubber one
from one of the vendors. Now the truck will only stay
in 2nd or 4th. The stiffness of the rubber boot cause
the trany to pop out of 1st and 3rd. Will this wear
in, or should I start looking around for a leather
replacement?
