[FC] Installing Emblem on rampside tailgate.

My ramp is out of the paint shop and I am in the process of putting it back
together. (No small job)   I am trying to install the "Chevrolet" emblem on
the tailgate.  I have the little clips sold by Clark. #C3673, just like the
originals that were consumed by rust. Actually the tailgate, emblem and
studs are in excellent condition.  What is the correct way to install this
emblem?  Do I put the clip on the tapered stud then push into the tailgate?
Or put the stud in the tailgate hole, then push the emblem with its studs
into them?  I have sort of tried both ways, but am afraid to put much force,
for fear of ruining something.  It feels very hard to push and the tailgate
sheet metal bends in slightly.  I'll wait doing this until I hear from you
folks who have done this lots of times.  Thanx.
