Pictures are good. Care to declare one or two public domain so that I can
put them in the Wikipedia Corvair entry? It was pretty bad, but I've been
slowly improving it...
Remember, you have to have taken the picture in order to have creator
rights to it...
As for the book itself, do we really want a "coffee table" book. I like
the idea of a book that is pretty to look at, and that isn't one you'd plan
on taking into the garage and getting greasy. Having said that, I've
usually found coffee table books light on actual content.
I'm thinking of a book that is a little more practically focused. Maybe
1-2 pretty pictures on a page, along with more technical pictures (like the
front and rear suspension shots on the FC primer) where appropriate.
Then comes the question of content. Do we want the history through 1965,
or do we want to go further and explore the practicalities of living with
one? I don't think we want to go into procedures for this, that or the
other, but at least explaining (as an example) that the rear wheel bearings
are unobtanium, and so must be cared for carefully by the procedures in the
CORSA Tech Guide might be a good thing.
I'm thinking that exploring why they're still so popular with us FC nut
cases is probably a worthwhile topic. Pictures of customizations and
variations as well as sales material and good examples of the beast.
Part of my reasoning is that Tony Fiore did such a good job with basic
Corvair history in The Corvair Decade that we probably want to expand the
range of topics somewhat, or we just end up with a miniature "Decade" that
only covers four years and has lots of pictures of boxy trucks.
If we're going to put the amount of effort required into this thing to make
it both pretty and worth reading, we had better make a book that will
actually appeal to someone.
And yes, offers of help from Art Directors are very welcome indeed!
