[FC] Off subject a bit but still Corvair related

Hello gang;  I have a 1961 Lakewood wagon that we bought recently.  It is 
mostly original and I would like to keep it that way.  However, the engine 
lid insullation is beginning to deteriorate to the point where I fear that 
pieces of it will begin to be drawn into the engine, as the plastic 
sheeting(?) cover that is held onto the underside of the lid is coming 
apart.  Should I bite the bullet and purchase one out of Clarks or is there 
a better way to go with 'modern' materials like they use with hot rods?
