if you are into stock ,i would seriously consider changing the nose.  you 
will need a press to do it but it is not too bad to do. the worst part for me is 
cleaning parts .  put punch marks on the surfaces you have to turn (axle and 
pinion nut) and note the turns. if bearings etc are in good shape you should be 
able to come very close that way.  put ALL new seals in while its out.  so if 
gears and bearings are lookking good ,that is the way to do it right.  there 
are some pictures of me doing it on the web picture site. i may even have an 
extra nose here ...i have all powerglides now.
