Hi folks!

I turned the key, the starter kicked in, and the engine turned over with satisfying authority. The oil pressure light went off. Once the gas got into the carbs, the spitting and giggling started.. you know... the sound of an engine eager to fire up and get going, but just not enough gas to come fully to life on its own. Another couple of pumps of the accelerator and it finally idled to life... not so much like a kitten.... more like a really ticked off tiger. The valve train noise was fierce! I let it idle for close to five minutes hoping that the noise would settle down remembering that someone on this listserv said it could take up to 15 minutes... I got scared and shut it off. Started again a minute later, no change, shut it off.

I did a complete static setting of the lifters while the engine was sitting on the workbench following Bob Helt's book word for word. I found that I did not have to change each setting much at all if any.

My mechanic brother in law says hmmmmm usually 3 or 4 minutes does the trick on water pumpers.

Am I gonna hafta set the lifters with the engine running?

Should I just let it run until it quiets down?

I put Castrol Synthetic 10 30 in it and no major parts have come out through the exhaust pipe....

What to do? What to do?

thanx
