Bill;

I agree with John, you should still report this to the police and talk to 
your auto insurance company to see what your options are.

Check with your homeowners' insurance.  It may be covered under your 
homeowners policy since it happened in front of your house and the driver 
left the scene.

I had a similar incident happen with my '63 convertible happen a couple of 
years ago during the big blackout.
We had gone to go to our friends' cottage (we wanted to make our two-week 
old daughter more comfortable).  As we were leaving, I thought should I pull 
it in the back yard or leave it in the street?

Well, I made the wrong decision, but at least my neighbor wouldn't let the 
woman who hit my car leave until the police got there.
