I read an article in Popular Hot Rodding Magazine on restoring a Ford Falcon grill. And the info that really stuck with me was the fact you have to remove the anodizing before you did anything else.I think they used a type of nitrate (NOT A FERTILIZER !) to strip the anodizing. Easy off will remove the paint. So be prepared to repaint the grill(much easier than polishing the aluminum).Always try to start with the most fine sandpaper as possible because you will have to remove whatever sand marks you put in.
And try to use a buffing wheel designed for bench grinder, heat and speed matter on polishing aluminum.
I bought a grill off of E-Bay to practice polishing, and suprisingly it mint! My origional one will now be my experimental piece.
