  It is also called "spring wire". It is hardened and brittle, meaning it will hold a bend, but not let you straighten the bend without breaking. Hobby stores carry the stuff, as well as one particular hardware store chain in the Dallas area.
  Wire the size you are referring to is larger than what you would find sold for use in a piano.
  Think landing gear wire for R/C planes.
