i have found that if the fuel pump is good , and the choke is working
correctly , the engine will start quickly even after setting all winter without
running! this is on 2 vehicles that are ok ,(64 coupe and 63 rampy) and one
stubborn one (64 greenbrier) with occasional sticky choke rod. the stubborn one
will act like no spark (not a hint of firing!) until i get out and close the
chokes by hand. if you unhook the choke rods and they spring away from the
carbs , they are bent. if you hold them close to the carb and they rub in the
hole in the head as you move them up and down , you need to fix that .
someday i will fix that, at least i KNOW what is causing it. apparently the
lower rod on the chokes are bent (both!) and rubbing ever so slightly. you
touch them , and they close nicely and run well for a long time.
tinker time.
regards, tim colson
