Re: battery tray
My '61 was rusted off and the remaining parts were lying inside the engine compartment.
I removed the bolts that held the tray itself to the brackets that were welded to the wheelwell. I fabbed up a new frame for a tray from 1/2" angle - iron, and cut scrap steel to make the "floor" for the battery. Be sure to allow holes in the sides of the bracket frame for the long "J" bolts to hold the new battery down. I also drilled a hole in a slight depression ( I used a the round end of a ball - peen hammer struck by a similar - sized hammer over a largish socket) in the exact center for the drain tube on the new plastic battery tray. I saved the plastic nipple from the original tray and epoxied it into the depression in the new tray floor and attached a drain hose to keep the battery juices away from the sheet metal. Toughest part was drilling the new holes in the wheelwell for the forward bracket attachment, that is a narrow space to work!
