[FC] Temp sending unit options

Hello gang;  I purchased a temp sending unit at my local NAPA dealer after it was suggested I replace mine due to the temp light coming and staying on in my '61 Rampside.  I tried to remove the old unit only to have it break off flush with the engine.  Before I get too excited about that occurance I wish to know whether and where there is a better location for a temp sending unit.  A fellow Corvair owner had told me a while ago about a better place to install it but since then I haven't found an opportunity to connect with him.  If putting another unit back in the same place I need to part number as the unit I purchased at NAPA was way too large around to fit in the hole (that is no longer there).  Help please.
