Before you go too much further, I'd check both the regular VIN plate  
the "hidden" VIN on the body, to make sure they match and that it's  
really a '64.  Several states list the year as year of sale, rather  
than model year.  That way you can be sure what you have.

Well, it's certainly more interesting, I think, with the top - maybe  
not "historic" per se, but "nostalgic" at least.  The real question  
is, what do you want it for?  It'll turn plenty of heads at a normal  
show either way, but at a Corvair convention it'll really be a  
conversation piece with the camper, there are many of those.  OTOH,  
they are utility vehicles, so it's not like yours would be the only  
one that isn't stock.
