I got the heads off tonight and have added some more pictures.

I an extremely concerned about the engine after the comments and
observations made today. Can someone please educate me on the differences in
the block, I looked again tonight and I cannot see it. I need to make a
decision at this point as to what I am going to do and I would appreciate
the feedback of people who have done this before. I have never been inside a
Corvair engine so I am completely ignorant of what it is.

I have contacted a machine shop recommended by a friend and spoke with the
owner today. All this shop does is heads. The owner told me he has done a
few Corvair heads as well as other air cooled ones such as Porsche and VW.
My friend met him because he did the heads on his Dad's old Porsche which is
now a full blown race car and did an excellent job. We agreed he will take
the heads apart, clean and test them and let me know what parts are needed,
I will supply all parts. I intend to replace the guides and I have a
question on them as I have seen two types, bronze and steel, which should I
use?

Thanks,
Harry Smith
