I did not see Andrew's response, but I assume he is referring to the 
"summer - winter" opening in the engine compartment (top side of the 
shrouding - above the damper doors).  I think these are "bend to adjust" on 
EMs.  I also seem to recall (perhaps mistakenly) that SOME EMs have two of 
them - one on each side.

If this is a summer only car, they should be closed and left that way.  If 
winter driven (doubtful), they should be open in winter to prevent carb 
icing.

Regarding - cooling the coil - some folks mount the coil on the rear frame 
rail rather than the engine.  I suppose that helps (probably does), but 
can't say for certain.
