I'm not sure exactly how or where in mounts underneath the front end, but is it 
possible that the difference is the thru the tank shift linkage vs. under the 
crossmember linkage?

FYI--I did a little research for Chuck and the '64 part number is different
(3844759). The '64 parts book lists that number, and the '65 book lists both
numbers. By '69, only the '65 number is listed (for both years).

Not sure what changed between '64 and '65 but it would be interesting to
compare one from each year to find out... I assume it's not simply a part
number change since the '65 book lists both numbers.

This is all in Group 16.550, for those crazy enough to follow along. :-)

I do have at least one "tray" in decent condition , they are a pain when in
place,
but look nice. the assembly book calls it " front end splash shield" part
number
3860759.
