[FC] rear axles

Good afternoon

I have a question concerning my 62 Greenbrier. I am running a 110 eng, 64 transaxle and a 67 slushy power glide. My question is, when putting rear axles back in is there a spacer of some sorts that goes on first to the backing plate then the axle, or does the axle just slide in and bolt to the backing plate? I have had a problem with the inside tires wearing a lot quicker then they should. When putting the shims in what would be recommened to start from snatch?

FYI just a side note, My tranny went to leaking thought it was converter seal, the one i put in leaked as well. So like a dummy I put other one in and same problem. Tear down number 3 I took a closer look at the converter , pressurized it, and guess what , it took a healthy pee of tranny fluid right out of a spot weld under the cover on the hub side. The symptoms where leak bad on start up, after 5 mins of run time, it all but quit. Then I remember what my friend Bill M told me , once a seal leaks it don't heal it self. So, after 52 years why would something like this happen. :)

Back to the axles, I want to say thank you in advance and Merry Christmas to all....

I am not certain that it is a factory built vehicle, but I have no reason to doubt his honesty. It very well may have been done by a previous owner more years ago, than anyone could remember. I would check it over carefully for deviations from what would have been practiced by Chevrolet back then. If it truly has a I beam in the floor area, I doubt that Chevrolet would have done a unit like this. Also, check the ramp quarter panel area for signs of modifications. I could be way off base on this, so take my thoughts for what they are... One persons opinion, based on a telephone conversation from long ago. Possibly Dave Newell can shed some light on the subject.
