[FC] alternator

OK, I have a 1961 Rampside which I think has a 140 and has been converted to an alternator, 1100698 37A.    Right now, I cannot get rid of a very low GEN light.  Am I correct in thinking the alternator has the voltage regulator built into it?   So, it is time to replace the alternator.  Recently, it threw off the nut holding the pulley on and I fished it out and reattached it.   But now, it keeps vibrating so badly that it shears off the hot wire loop (it breaks below the loop) so the truck goes dead.

So, please comment.   I see that Remy makes an updated alternator, 20002 on their site.  Not expensive, about $50 bucks.  What would you do?
