[NoVa-Corvairs] Frozen Engine

You're amazing! The local shop boss, after groaning when learning that I was
sending him a Corvair, saying he used to groan every time someone would
bring one in in the old days, and asking, "What the heck are you doing
letting your daughter drive a Corvair?" promptly diagnosed -- corroded
connections!! They were replaced and rewired in no time, with shiny new
connections everywhere I could see in the engine compartment area near the
battery, etc., and she started right up! Good work, Curt! Needless to say I
was embarrassed, since I had wasted time and money pulling, testing and
reinstalling the starter/solenoid, putting in a brand new battery, and
having it towed!

Her fuel gauge also does not work. He disconnected the lead, and when
disconnected, the needle rose from empty to full. He said it should go to
full when grounded, not when just disconnected. He suggested that I get a
new sending unit first, but said it could be the gauge itself because of the
strange "reverse" behavior. I seem to recall that when I cleaned and coated
the tank not too long ago, I also replaced the sending unit. So, without
understanding all the electronics involved, I might guess it's the gauge.
Any thoughts on this one???

Thanks!!
