Sorry for the delay but just got back from a trip and I don't see where I
was copied on any response.

The club just did this at Steve MacLeod's a few meetings ago and if I
remember correctly his line to the trunk wall was also short.  However it
can be bent closer and there is a "union"  or coupler between the brake
line inside the passenger compartment and the brake line in the trunk. 
This coupler is about a one inch long and can make up the short gap
between the trunk wall and the line.
