Some of this known to some of you but I thought it might be of interest
to the rest.
A friend of mine, Bob, from the Antique Auto Club of America (AACA)
bought a '61 Corvair with original factory air conditioning. However, it
needs a replacement hood. So I sent out a note on this list and Greg
Walthour got back to me about a Lakewood that Robert Baxley wanted
removed from his property. The Lakewood has a good hood.
Some members of our club had showed an interest in getting this car for
parts. However Robert wanted the Lakewood moved now and so my friend Bob
and I went up to Haggardstown and trailered it back to Martinsburg, WV.
The original plan was for my friend to take the hood and anybody from our
club who wanted the Lakewood could come up and haul it away. However, my
friend feels that the car is too good to part out and he is thinking
about restoring it. To compensate those in the club who wanted some
parts, Bob has 4 or 5 other Corvairs around his place that he is willing
to give the club or sell to the club for a modest price depending upon
the condition of the parts car and how many we want. Behind this master
plan of Bob's is the goal of removing some of the cars from his property
thereby improving the harmony between he and his wife. So, at our next
meeting I think we should discuss whether we want to get another parts
car for the club.
