Hello, all.

I just wanted to give you a quick update on my life.

After the two-month leave of absence I took in order to cram for the bar exam I tried returning to my job at SAIC. However, during that time my supervisors discovered that I wasn't quite as indispensible as I led them to believe. So they laid me off. Frankly, I saw it coming so I wasn't all that surprised or even the least bit bitter.

Luckily, I found a job as an attorney after only a month of unemployment -- today was my first day on the job. I'm in-house legal counsel for Precision Auto Care, an international car maintenance franchise. The fun thing about franchise law is that it includes so much: e.g., contracts, business law, torts, insurance law, trademarks and copyrights. For instance, today I drafted a settlement agreement with some guy whose engine blew up after he took his car to one of our centers; tomorrow I get to research Bangladeshi franchise law (I would have taken Bangledeshi Franchise Law when I had the chance, but I had a scheduling conflict).

The best part, however, is that (notwithstanding my boss) I probably have the only attorney position in the DC area that has -- on site -- a three bay garage, complete with floor lifts, diagnostic equipment, and tools!!! While the garage is used for traning new franchise owners, I think I can coax the the guys who run it into letting me use it for Corvair or classic BMW repair. That's the plan, anyway.

best,
daniel
