Curt: Joan and I made it to Portland!! I saw you on Wednesday, but could not catch up to you. Then we got totally occupied getting my '67 prepared for the Concours. Then they grabbed me and Joan to serve as scorers for the Concours with Don and Barb Wagner.
While we didn't go on any of the tours (We lived out there for over 10 years and have seen them all), they sounded excellent. From comments heard from those attending, these were definitely a highlight. We stopped briefly at Multnomah Falls on our way back to the Tri Cities. One of the park people asked me if there was a Corvair meet because of all the Corvairs he had seen.
I met a bunch of people from the other clubs we belonged to over the years. Five couples took the Pullman (sleeper) from Columbus, Ohio, to the convention (48 hours one-way). There was a bunch from the Tri-cities, WA., too. Walter Carter, Tide Water Corvairs, drove all the way in a beautiful 65 4-door. He had no problems until he got into the traffic near Portland and someone (possibly a drunk) side-swiped his car, leaving a deep groove from the front fender to the back fender. The guy never stopped and because of the traffic the Corvair owner could not get the license plate # or anything. The car was patched up for the Concours, but it will be an expense repair.
There were "approximately" 36 cars in the Concours and about 50 in Peoples Choice. The attendance was good, but not sensational. There were about 8 to 10 booths located outside the Hotel, selling used parts. One guy I talked to had about 8 engines of all kinds on a trailer with other stuff of unknown quality. He said he did not plan on taking it back with him, so I guess he must have gone to the junk yard with them. Inside the hotel, Clark's and Underground ruled the roost. Clarks had lots of items there, while Underground sent a "runner" back to their store to bring back things as ordered. There were some random entrepreneurs there offering rebuilt carbs, fuel injection kits, high performance differential/transmission parts, rebuilt radios and clocks, etc.
Attached are a few photos I took. They open nicely using "Imaging".

Howard:
I did enjoy the CORSA Convention in Portland. The host club did a good
job. Unfortunately there was no one else from our club there although
there were two others from Group Corvair. At least three CORSA members
from Tide Water Corvair drove the cars out. One got the long distance
award.
