Could the The No Va Covair Club sponsor one or more Soap Box Derby cars?
They
would be build then raced by area youth in the 65th Greater Washington
D.C.
Soap Box Derby on June 17 2006.
This June 17 area youth 8 to 17 will be racing there gravity powered cars
down
Capitol Hill. The three division winners from this event will go on to
compete
along with 500 kids from 160 other US and several international cities in
July
in Akron Ohio.
The Soap Box Derby cars now come as a kit and can be bought on-line from
http://aasbd.org.
The SBD kits (stock and superstock division) can be assembled in approx.
10hrs
Stock division racer bodies come in white, red, black or yellow and can
not be
painted. The Superstocks division racers come in white and can be
painted.
Masters division cars are for more experienced drivers and only come in
white
and must be painted and now can take up to 500 hrs to build.
There are other spring events (called SBD rallies) that the new
cars/drivers
could gain experience learning how to drive the SBD cars. There will be
SBD
rallys in Frederick, Pax River and Harrisburg in the spring.
There is actually a 20% sale on all SBD cars ordered (http://aasbd.org)
before
xmas.
