Speaking of slumber ...
This weekend I had the Green Machine out on the road for the first time in 3.5 years! Unbelievably, with no fiddling, it had plenty of power and didn't hesitate at all. Even more unbelievably, during its maiden voyage I received a phone call from Greg (sixth sense?).
I feel that must state the obvious: a late model is superior to an early model in almost every single way. They're just more flingable. The shifter throws are much shorter too (though I guess you could always do a 4spd transplant). Now I don't know if I want to sell.
The '65 needs a brake adjustment, as it darts to the right. It always did this, but now is the time to rectify it. The valves chatter a bit, even after fully warmed. Hopefully, someone can supply me with the following parts:
-A carb j-bolt
-The rod with the four rubber bushings that goes from the rear A-arm to the frame. The one on the right is broken and the wheel is splayed.
At the 2/19 meeting at my house I'll have the following parts available for a small contribution:
-cylinder barrel cores
-pistons
-cylinder head cores
-late trunk lid
-engine shrouds
Mike, perhaps I'll come by on Sat to see Rip Van Corvair's twenty-first century maiden voyage.
best,
daniel
