Darrin,
I shouldn't be surprised at this point, but once again this another case of
someone buying a Corvair on E-bay w/o benefit of inspecting it in person.
Similar to the gent in Fairfax that was trying to sell the 65 Monza Vert. This
young lady says she paid (this July) 9600.00 including the cost to ship it
from Mount Airy MD. She was asking 10,500 for a car that in my opinion is
barely worth 5,000. What we have is a true Spider Convertible with a 28 year
old restoration, with cracking dull paint, a bad miss on acceleration and
surface throughout the floor boards and around most of the weather-strip. It
shifted smooth and didn't smoke. There was a pretty strong smell of gas when I
first walked up to the car, which then the seller admitted the fuel pump had
"sprung a leak" over the weekend when her father took it for a test drive. She
said he tightened it up over the weekend and that fixed it?? Anyway, I think
once again I'll pass. I don't think she would be willing to take 5K less
than the asking price.
On the convention, like you, I'm planing on driving up early Saturday and
returning by night fall. I have to go out of town early Sunday and need to be
back by a reasonable hour Saturday night. Where would you like to meet?
