I recently spoke with Jim Devlin who was interested in the subject Corvair. He actually lives in Potter County Pennsylvania, which is known as "God's Country" to us folk from PA! Jim has already looked at the car; however, he was just interested in a second opinion. The car looks great in the photos; however, it had a quick respray a few years ago, which sounds like it was not prepped very well, needs a new top, and the interior was a bit worn. Jim was very concerned about a 3" rust hole under the battery, and was able to look under the carpets and was scared by all the surface rust. He was very impressed by how well the car ran and handled. This was all of Jim's opinion, so that's all I have to go on. He said the seller was asking $6k, but it sounded as though he would take less. Jim is also considering Karmann Ghia's, Jeepsters, etc., so he does not have his heart set on a Corvair. If it is a Corvair it must be an early. It would be nice to bring another victim, ah, I mean person, into the Corvair fold, so maybe we can steer him into a 'Vair! I mentioned the upcoming convention, but he does not want to wait until the summer is half over. I recommended to Jim that I would call the seller and ask him to bring the Corvair to the next NVCC meeting at AJ's. He said that he was available that day and would come. I emailed them both the last newsletter from work, and would have copied Jim in on this email, but that is at work also. I figured 3-8 sets of eyes would be better than one. I will probably not be at AJ's, since it is Easter weekend, so I will leave it up to you guys to make a fair evaluation of the car and possibly come up with a price that you think would be fair for Jim to pay. It sounds as though if it would have been in the $4k range, he may have purchased it. Jim's phone #'s are: 814/274-9117 (H), 570/447-1301 (C). So, who is going to buy the remaining Corvair in Southern Maryland?
