Chattering clutch in a Corvair usually caused by gear oil on the clutch
plate. At it's worst when cold, but usually diminishes to drivable
level as the clutch warms up. You would think that gear oil would make
the clutch slip, and it might if the disk was drenched, but we're talkig
about slow seepage, and then soak/burn-in with clutch usage, altering
the friction characteristics of the clutch lining surface.

Cause and effect: Flywheel rivets loosen> flywheel goes out of balance
and whips around> input shaft whips with it, wallowing out the input
shaft seal> gear oil escapes and gets on clutch plate.
