Yes: We need some variety in demos. This will be very interesting.
It's too bad that someone doesn't have the tool that works on the
late model axles. That way we could cover them all.
Re the infamous "Puller Ring" See page 165 Clark's 2002-2006 main
catalog, bottom of the page. The puller ring serves as a back up
device onto which the puller is attached (so the bearings aren't damaged
during the pull). It is not pressed onto the axle like the bearings are,
but is held tight against the flange when bearings are pressed on.

Guys:
I just got off the phone with a man named Russell Davis (Central Corvair
Club?) who made a tool specifically to remove axle bearings from early
model axles. He is willing to demonstrate his tool at one of our tech
sessions or in place of one. he would prefer do the morning session as
then he could run the Rally in the afternoon.
To do his demonstration he would need two or three early axles on which
to demonstrate this. Russell said the axle must still have the puller
ring on it (I don't know what that means) to do his demonstration.
First of all is this acceptable to the group? I had tried to contact
this man about doing this earlier without luck but Wade Lanning sent me
Russell's cell phone number and as they say, the rest is history.
Secondly, does anyone have any candidate axles with which Russell can do
his demonstration?
Curt
