Bryan...that is true for all but the rearmost ones. The cage itself on
this one is not on top of the frame rail to hold the nut...it is is a
pylon that determines the placement of that part of the suspension, i.e.
the suspension mounts on the bottom of the cage structure.....so it cannot
be cut off. May try to chisel through the slots to free up the nut which
is welded (and how did they manage that?) to the pylon/cage.
Even less fun to deal with than it is to visualize. Nice to share the
frustration though.

I have read that the cages are just for ease of assembly. You can
cut them off and use standard nuts (and maybe washers). Might search
the VV archives and see what you turn up.
