Hey Curt,

Look for my parents out there in Ventura...Richard and Charlotte Hartzler.
They really shocked me by telling me they were driving out this year. He
gave up on Corvairs a decade or so ago, but had them since he bought one
new in 63'. I think he is going out in search of his last one...a 65
turbo vert in maroon. Maybe he will drive one home.

You really did have a world of mice out there at your place in VA....that
turbo motor you sold me was fully inhabited as well!

Didn't you move out there so you would never have to use a heater again?

Thanks for the update and have fun in CA.

Say HI to my mom and dad for me.

Best,

Darrin

[NoVa-Corvairs] Little Things

Guys:

I head out to the Corvair convention tomorrow. A little early but I will
visit friends along the way.

This is the first time I can remember driving to the convention but not
in the Corvair. By the way, I drove my current Corvair to the first
convention in the Chicago area some - what 37 years ago.

I can't drive it, as I had to pull the power train to replace a squealing
throwout bearing. Once the engine was on the ground I decided that it
was time to replace the original brake lines all the way from the rear to
the junction up under the dash. So I had to order the parts. By the
way, I was pleased that I could loosen all of the brake lines without
breaking or twisting anything. Of course, I used lots of LD endorsed PB
Blaster penetrating oil for 3 days before I put a wrench to anything.

Then I remembered that I was not getting much hot air out of the heater.
All but one of the hoses were good and the bad one was replaced last
fall. So I decided to clean up a standby by heater unit I had from the
Corvair Ranch and replace the 42 year old original. So I got new fan
body sheet metal, a new fan assembly, pulled the cast box apart and
cleaned and polished everything, and finally I used all new galvanized
screws and lock washers to reassemble it. So a few days ago I get the
old one off and it is just stuffed with mouse houses. All the fins in
the cage fan were packed with paper and the turning fan could not move
any air. When looking at the original unit I noticed the sheet metal
part was fairly rusty but inside the cast, metal box the flapper valves
and especially the rubber seals at the edge of the valves were in much
better shape than the one I just refurbished. So now I need to use parts
of the replacement unit with parts from the original - time, time, time.
Well at least here there is no more money to be spent.

Then I got to thinking that I really need another cigarette lighter plug
in power outlet. So, now I need to run another #10 wire up to the dash
area.

Wait - if I don't stop now I will never get the car back on the road.
And that is my plan, to stop now, until I think of something else.
Please no ideas from you guys.

Curt
