[NoVa-Corvairs] Fwd: Some pictures from Rockville

Those photos brought back some fond memories of my years in the D.C.
area. Along about '86 or '87 at the Rockville show I came across a
Maroon Tucker in mint condition (only 50-some were made). I had never
seen a Tucker in the paint and metal before. I was fascinated by the
use of a Sikorsky helicopter engine with transaxle, and by the rear-
drive configuration so similar to the Corvair's in many ways.

A couple of years later, that eyes-on experience came in handy when I
was assistant editor of Cars & Parts Magazine in Sidney, Ohio.

We were going over photos from some car show -- Hershey, perhaps. I
mentioned having seen another Tucker at the Rockville show, and
mentioned the Sikorsky provenance of the engine. The editor, Bob
Stevens, refused to believe that Tucker used a Sikorsky engine in his
car. He was sure (quite loudly) that I (the staff newbie despite being
in my late 40s) was dead wrong. I bet him $10 bucks he was wrong, we
checked the facts in our library, and I won. Had a better lunch than
usual that day. And Bob never scoffed at my automotive knowledge again
-- at least in public. :^)

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
