Greg,

Thank you for the advice. I am taking your advice and recondition the one that I have. Since I am really not in any position to condition the one I have myself here. I'll have to drain the one I have and take it up to the Corvair ranch. Jeff said they could recondition it for $90 and sell me a new sending unit with all the parts for $93. I'll try to get the tank out sometime this weekend if possible and get the tank over to Jeff by next week.

I rebuilt my own '60 fuel tank by completely sandblasting the outside, and "cleaning" the inside with a "trucker's chain" or rocks(!) and Oxi-Solve from Eastwood for both inside and out. If the tank is not dented, and only has a few pin holes, they can either be brazed shut, or closed with JB Weld. The outside was then finished with Cold Galvanizing Compound (CGC), and the inside sealed with RedCoat (or something similar). I have done at least four fuel tanks this way and none have leaked! I believe Clark's is reproducing the '60 sending unit. When you have the tank out, I would replace any gas/brake lines above the tank and wirebrush and coat any "surface" rust with POR15. Good luck... Greg
